Born in Cardiff in 1966, Rhys now lives in Porthcawl. He studied Engineering at university and has worked as an engineer and research officer for various Welsh government agencies. His first publications were chess problems and mathematical puzzles in major U.K. newspapers. Rhys’ first short story appeared in 1992, and since then he has published numerous collections of short stories and novellas. A prolific author of fantastical fiction, his work has been influenced by writers such as Calvino, Borges, Flann O’Brien and Stanislaw Lem, and compared with the fiction of Machen and John Cowper Powys. A regular contributor to Polluto: The Anti-pop Culture Journal (Dog Horn Publishing), Rhys’ work has been translated into Spanish, French, Greek, Portuguese, Russian and Serbian. He is currently working on three new novels and experimenting with science fiction, gothic horror and realism.
