Sandra MacknessShort story writer and debut novelist: born and educated in Barry. Sandra’s stories and articles have won prizes in literary competitions and she has broadcast her work on BBC Wiltshire Sound. She is a member of the writers’ group Hookers’ Pen and belongs to the Romantic Novelists’ Association. Since gaining her MA in Creative Writing (Trinity College Carmarthen 2006) she has become a DACE associate tutor and led a variety of workshops. Sandra reads a wide range of authors and keeps her knowledge of different genres current by networking and attending courses. From 2010 she will be leading online weekly creative sessions for eleven to eighteen-year-old students.

One of the anthologies she contributed to, entitled Laughing not Laughing (edited by Catherine Merriman) (Honno, 2004) was short-listed for an award. Her ‘Brazen Hussies’ was commended in Planet. Sandra has also contributed to D C Thompson group magazines, as well as The Lady, Wiltshire View and Blue Tattoo magazines.
