Kate Glanville was born in West Africa to Irish parents and grew up in Bristol before settling in and around Llandeilo, where she has lived for the past thirty years.
She studied fashion design at Central Saint Martins, graduating in 1990, and went on to work in the textile industry before establishing a successful career as a ceramic artist. Her hand-painted tiles and tableware have been sold in shops and galleries worldwide.
Alongside her work as a visual artist, Kate has been writing stories since childhood, though it wasn’t until she was forty that she found the confidence to share her work publicly. Her debut novel, A Perfect Home, was published by Penguin US in 2012.
Since then, she has written five further novels, published by Headline Accent in the UK and Bastei Lübbe in Germany: Heartstones, Stargazing, The Cherry Tree Summer, and The Peacock House. Her books—often set in Ireland and Wales—blend contemporary women’s fiction with threads of history and family secrets, weaving past and present together. They are also available as audiobooks on Audible.
Drawing inspiration from the landscapes and communities of Wales and Ireland, Kate writes about love, loss and belonging—stories rooted in place but resonating far beyond.
Kate’s short stories have appeared in The Lady magazine, and she is Chair of the annual Llandeilo Literature Festival: www.llandeilolitfest.org.
