G.F. Cope is the pen name for Dr Graham F. Cope, who was a medical research biochemist, inventor, company founder and director. He published widely in academic journals throughout his career. Upon retirement he spent many years as a medical writer in a variety of fields, including dentistry, pregnancy, cardiology and wound healing. His main speciality was in smoking-related diseases and was the author of Smoking – what all healthcare professionals need to know (2016).

Born in Leeds, Yorkshire, working mainly in Birmingham West Midlands then retiring to Cowbridge, Vale of Glamorgan in 2019. He then turned to a lifelong interest in military history, particularly the late Georgian period, he extensively researched the life of Frederick, Duke of York, second son of King George III. This progressed later to the investigation of medical men who served at the same time, both in the British and French armies. These two projects morphed into his first novel, The Bone Cutter, which covers the early stages of the French Revolutionary War in 1793, and features the young surgeon’s mate, Andrew Jardine.
